Conference on PV module degradation at the University of Jaén
At Solkeys, we are very pleased to have taken part once again in the Lecture Series organized by the Postgraduate Studies Center at the University of Jaén. It was a real pleasure to share experiences and knowledge on degradation modes in photovoltaic modules and quality assurance processes—two fundamental topics to ensure the large-scale and sustainable deployment of solar energy worldwide.
During the session, we covered several key issues relevant to the photovoltaic sector, including:
-
Main degradation and failure mechanisms: We analyzed the processes that affect photovoltaic modules over time and their impact on long-term performance and reliability.
-
Typical degradation and failure rates: Reference values were presented on annual module degradation, failure rates, and estimated service life, providing a realistic framework for planning and operating solar energy systems.
-
Impact of new technologies: We examined how the latest cell and module technologies (such as TOPCon and HJT) affect durability, as well as new associated degradation modes and strategies for their mitigation.
-
Advanced inspection and testing methods: We discussed evaluation techniques and quality assurance programs that go beyond the requirements of IEC 61215, aiming to raise industry standards even further.
-
Quality assurance strategies: Procedures and best practices were reviewed for every phase of the process, from manufacturing and pre-shipment to transport, reception, and installation on site.
